Screws used to connect plastic materials together must possess special properties to ensure a proper, safe connection. When threading plastic as opposed to installing a screw to thread metal or wood, a different process is involved. You must use the right screw in order to achieve the required clamping in plastic material. There are special thread forming screws made for plastic materials. At ITW Shakeproof Industrial, we are your source for various thread forming screws designed for plastic material connections, including standard and metric thread forming screws for plastic.

No pre-tapping is required when using thread forming screws. These screws produce the required threads as they travel into and penetrate the material.

Some of the different types of thread forming screws for plastic are described below.

BOSSCREW™

The BOSSCREW™ is the only engineered fastener to not loosen in plastic applications due to its performance design. The thread form technology works to interlock with plastic. Some key benefits are vibration resistance in all plastic applications throughout the lifecycle, prevents creep and strengthen joint in temperature fluctuating applications, and achieves higher torque settings.

PLASTITE® Screws

These plastite screws feature widely spaced threads and allow the screws to easily drive into plastic material. These screws can be used with soft or hard plastics. Whether as standard or metric thread forming screws for plastic, these screws have a thread spacing that helps preserve their position and prevent their loosening due to vibration.

HI-LO® Screws

With smaller diameters than other screws, HI-LO® screws also produce smaller holes in plastic. They feature double threads situated at a 30-degree angle which is the perfect angle for creating positive thread engagement and minimizing material displacement.

PT Screws

These PT screws feature sharp threads, enabling easy penetration into plastic material without generating flakes. The angle of the thread helps the screws securely stay in place and reduces any screw loosening issues caused by vibration. PT screws have a special design that prevents the problem of material relaxation over time which is a problem with other screws that are not tightened to the same degree when attached to plastic.

P-Type Screws

With a wide thread cutting slot and edge, P-type screws have larger spaces between their threads, a feature that helps prevent chips from getting lodged between the threads. It also enables the screws to penetrate through plastic substrate without producing any substantial fracture.

Delta PT Screws

Providing greater holding force than PT screws, Delta PT screws are also better at minimizing flaking. The screws achieve greater plastic material displacement due to their lower angle threads.

We also offer customized screws if any of the thread forming screw options mentioned above are not exactly what you need for your application.
